“ Listen, my family and I have been dining at this establishment for years. Their claypot chicken rice is one of the most consistent and legitimate in town. Tender chicken cooked to perfection in the toasted slightly burnt rice with plenty of lap cheong/chinese sausages. There's going to be a little thing of salted fish, pour it into your claypot chicken rice when served and mix the entire pot of rice and chicken all together, including scraping the bottom and sides of the pot to get some of the burnt bits mixed in, before diving in. This is CRUCIAL for those of you reading this who have never experienced claypot chicken rice before. If you miss this step you might end up with an imbalanced pot of rice with unincorporated seasonings that you might wonder why are people even eating this stuff? I highly recommend ordering one of their soup of the day and perhaps a vegetable or side dish of choice to pair with this meal. A large claypot can probably feed 2-3 people so hopefully that's a good estimation for you. The claypot chicken rice here is made to order, on top of the crowd of people and the order backlog, claypot rice in general takes time. You don't want to come here when you're in a rush for time or expecting fast food. Upon sitting down and taking your order, your claypot chicken rice would then be made. Their Michelin rating is definitely not out of left field but unfortunately for us locals and those who are just now discovering this local institution, the popularity has meant that there would be a constant crowd here and a line of people waiting for a table. So expect to wait, but your patience would be well rewarded! Restaurant is air conditioned, well lit and bright. Parking might be a little tough with the small alleys and sidesteets but somehow I've always been able to find a spot. And yes they have English descriptions on their menu. ”
“ This was my first time trying Claypot Chicken Rice. I had really high expectations for it, since many YouTubers that visited KL were making it sound like the greatest thing ever. So what was my experience? Based on people's advice I called 40 minutes in advance, so I assumed that they could start cooking my claypot in before I arrived, much like Deep Dish Pizza or paella, both take about 35 or 40 minutes to make. So I arrive about 45 minutes after I called and was seated right away. Why did it take an additional 35 minutes to get my Claypot? I was really confused as to why I even bothered calling. After 35 minutes my food arrives. How was the food you ask? Chicken Claypot rice with Chinese sausage and salty fish: It was good. It's like Chinese Paella with the burnt crusty rice at the bottom of the claypot. But that's the thing. I was really expecting this life changing event eating this claypot. Like it was going to awaken my inner Asian and I was going to be transported to speak with the Ancestors, kind of like the Black Panther with the Heart Shaped Herb. But there was none of that. It was just good. It's just good flavored rice, moist chicken, Chinese sausage, and Chinese dry salted fish that will make you grow hair on your chest when you take a bite of it without rice. Would I eat it again? Sure. Would I wait that long for the claypot again? No. So there you have it. You. Will. Not. Turn. into the Asian Panther after eating it. ”
